Garbage going in river Jhelum: residents blame govt agencies

The denizens of this district today charged with failure the Municipal Committee Ramban and State Pollution Control Board, to check dumping of sewage and waste material on the banks of river Chenab flowing through the town.

The residents alleged that on any given day heaps of garbage and other dumping material can be seen littered along banks of river Chenab.

They said the waste material from several residential areas, commercial establishments, hotels, dhabas and meat shops flow in the river polluting the environment.

Rag pickers can be seen washing empty sand and cement bags and other items on the banks of river during day time, they said.

Even building material and waste material collected by Ramban Municipal Committee is being dumped on the banks of river at various dumping sites at old town and Maitra towns, they alleged.

People residing in close vicinity of the banks do not feel comfortable when they see waste material getting piled up along the banks of river. The situation is worse in the areas of Khow Bagh Ragunath Mandir Bowali Bazar and Cafeteria Morh Mohalla, they said.

They alleged that state government agencies have failed to check the pollution in the area.
