Work on the second phase of the Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover has been halted as laborers have gone on strike against non-payment of wages.

“Work has been halted from couple days due to strike of work by laborers and workers who have payment issues with the executing agency,” said an official of ERA.

“Also the executing agency has some issues with the government which is hampering the work on the project,” he said adding that the project completion is already running late.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti threw open the first phase of the Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh expressway corridor from the Amar Singh College area to the Barazulla bridge here recently.

Built at a cost of Rs 350 crore by the Jammu and Kashmir Economic Reconstruction Agency (J&KERA), the Asian Development Bank-funded project is expected to decongest the traffic on the road towards Barzulla and the Srinagar airport and the time to cover the area would also be reduced to a great extent.

Chief executive officer, ERA, Farooq Lone, said that, “we have held a meeting with the executing agency (Simplex Infrastructure private LTD) as well as with workers.’

“We have redressed their grievances and they will resume work soon,” he said.
