Police on Wednesday detained around dozen Shiv Sena activists in the city centre Lal Chowk who unsuccessfully tried to hoist tri-color on Ghanta Ghar (clock tower).

Amid slogans against National Conference president Farooq Abdullah, the activists tried to march towards Ghanta Ghar. “If Farooq Abdullah wants to come to power in Jammu and Kashmir, he should shun speaking language of separatists,” they said.

These activists had come from Jammu to hoist the tri-color in response to challenge by Abdullah who had had a few days ago said those speaking of “liberating Pakistan administered Kashmir should first try and hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk”.

As the activists marched forward the police swung into action and bundled them in a police vehicle. They were later lodged in Kothi Bagh police station here.
