Private schools association Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) today started an initiative ‘Moral Education, Environment and Relief Council (MEERC) here today.

The initiative was inaugurated by director academics Board of School Education Dr Farooq Ahmad Peer here at Bilaliya Educational School Lal Bazar here.

In his address, GN Var, chairman private schools Association J & K said that “lack of moral education in the society has led to moral disaster.”

“Our schools need to address this grave situation of immorality by providing a strategy, framework and policy that could in the long run change the idea of only education driven by moral and human Values,” he said.

“Quality education would always remain backbone of our schooling, however we would be imbibing the moral education as a priority. There should be clear cut policy for reservation of poor and downtrodden sections of the society,” Var said.

Prof Hamid Naseem Rafiabadi, a noted scholar congratulated PSAJK for starting the initiatives. “It is need of the hour to promote moral values with scientific knowledge besides taking care of environment and providing relief to the poor and needy,” he said.

Dr Farooq Ahmad Peer, director Academics JKBOSE, who was chief guest on the occasion said schools should adopt morality and character building as imperative part of syllabus. “We need to take care of environment and adopt moral education,” he said.

Congratulating the organisers of the event, he stressed that “environment has been destroyed and we need to restore our natural beauty.”

“While other states have maintained their beauty by artificial means .we need to save our rivers ,lakes and water bodies for protection of  environment,” he said.

“We must identify the real victims like orphans and destitute and reserve our relief for economically backward classes,” he said.

Vote of thanks was presented by Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo chairman MEERC. “We as private schools association should take concrete and practical steps for  promotion of moral education in schools, care for environment besides provide relief to  poor and needy,” Wangnoo said. He thanked the participants for their cooperation and support extended to MEERC for starting the endeavour.
