Jammu Kashmir’s Vijay Hazare trophy campaign  came to an end Wednesday with Jharkhand defeating them by 97 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

Going into its last match of the season against Jharkhand, J&K were without its four main bowlers and the results became obvious the moment the match started. Batting first Jharkhand on the back of the 96 run knock scored by Virat Singh went on to post 296 runs for the loss off nine wickets in allotted 50 overs. Despite J&K bowlers able to get early breakthrough, Jharkahndh went to pile a huge total on board, thanks to Virat’s heroics.

Virat scored 96 from 97 balls that included 11 boundaries while as Sumit Kumar scorinh 35 and Shahbaz Nadeem 29. For J&K Umar Nazir and Parvez Rasool took three wickets while as Abhisekh Bhat and Deepak Dogra took one each.

In reply J&K were never in hunt as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals from the start. At one time J&K were 110 for the loss of six wickets. It was due to the knock of 74 runs from 74 balls scored by youngster Shubham Pundir that J&K innings got some respectibility as they folded out for 199 runs. In his knock he smashed eight boundaries and one six. Shubham Khajuria with 20 was the next best scorer for J&K. For Jharkhand, Vikash and Ashish Kumar took three wickets each.

With this defeat J&K ended its Vijay Hazare campaign with two wins of six matches played. In the Group-D, they finished at sixth place . It was last campaign for J&K senior cricket team this season as they had earlier taken part in Ranji trophy and T20 events.
