Div Com kick-starts Khelo India sports events at Udhampur

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Sanjeev Verma was the chief guest who formally started Khelo India sports event on the occasion.

As a part of Khelo India sports initiative taken up by the Government of India on the theme "peace and development” today, the District Administration Udhampur in collaboration with “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” campaign organized different sports event at Subash Stadium Udhampur.

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Sanjeev Verma was the chief guest who formally started Khelo India sports event on the occasion. On his arrival, Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy Band group presented Guard of honour to the Divisional Commissioner. The programme was started with lighting of the traditional lamp on the occasion.

Additional District Development Commissioner Arvind Sharma, ASP Tabassum Parveen, Additional Deputy Commissioner Gurvinderjeet Singh, Chief Planning Officer Rajeev Bhushan, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Sonu Pargal, ACD Noor Alam,  SE R&B Des Raj, Executive Engineer R&B Parshotanlal and  other district /sectoral officers of different departments including seniors officers of CRPF besides staff members & students of different educational institutions and a large number of prominent citizens  were present on the occasion.

While addressing the gathering, Div Com congratulated the district administration for organizing such types of events. He also extended his best wishes to the participants for their best performance in the future tournaments. He said that holding of such sports events was a step forward to give a platform to the budding players of the district and to encourage the sports culture for a healthy society. He said sports are for learning value of life, it is not just the books that teach you about life but sports also.

In present age where students and youth are mostly busy on smart phones, such types of events are required to give a platform to play games of their choice and keep them healthy.

Div Com lauded the initiative taken by District administration to build up the moral and inculcate the spirit of sports in the students so that they could get exposure in such type of sports. He said that the physical activities are imperative in the academic curriculum for the overall development of the students and hoped that such activities would be continued in near future also.

He further said that sports activities have helped the youth to channelize their energy in a positive way in building the spirit of brotherhood among the students. He hoped that such sports events would go a long way in attracting the youth towards games. He expressed his pleasure on the fact that maximum participants were females.

Ealier, DDC Ravinder Kumar gave a brief about the sports events to be organized at different blocks of the district under Khelo India. He informed that more than 250 participants of district Udhampur are participating in various events under Khelo India programme.  He said that the main objective of organizing this programme is to sensitize the youth in general and students in particular about the sports and games.

A scintillating cultural programme based on BBBP and other social security schemes was presented by students of various educational institutions which was highly applauded by the audience on the occasion.

Later, the chief guest distributes participation certificates among the participants in the occasion.
