SKIMS mulls taking palliative cancer care to districts

In a bid to improve the reach of cancer program at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences(SKIMS) Soura, the administration is planning to extend the reach of palliative cancer care of the institute to cancer patients outside of Srinagar district.

SKIMS palliative care programme was started in 2015 in order to alleviate the sufferings of cancer patients and to take the patient care at public door steps.

Prof Fir Afroz, from department of radiation oncology and head department of pain and palliative care  while giving details said that home care facility, which is provided twice a week, has been proving a great support to patients right from its inception. Director  SKIMS Dr Omar Javed Shah hailed department for this sustained  initiative which is benefitting poor patients. He added that will be extended  to other districts of Kashmir, from being Srinagar centric and take palliation to patients’ door steps. He further said that the support will be extended to patients with kidney and cardiac aliments and the through various organizations.
