Baramulla town residents have asked the government to put to some good use the abandoned building of the old hospital, which has become a “den of immoral activities and drug addicts’ haven”.

The building was abandoned after the government constructed the new hospital building at Kantbagh, Baramulla four years ago. The old hospital building is located in the heart of the town.

“We often see boys and girls in obscene acts. And drug addicts have found it like a home,” said Ghulam Hassan, a resident. Around the old building, there are about 37 kanals of land worth crores of rupees.

Basharat Ahmad, a local trader, said the district administration had been asked to renovate the building and put it to some use, like a maternity or children’s hospital.
