Sacred month of Buddhists commence

Thousands of devotees would participate in the Gochak prayers in which devotees prostrate and march for whole days on the road.

The first month of Buddhist calendar which is observed as sacred month during which Buddhists in Ladakh hold prayers at monasteries and at village level, has commenced. 

According to tradition, on 14th and 15th of this calendar which is falling on 28th February and 1st of March 2018, devotees would undertake annual Gochak procession which starts from Leh Gate and passes through main market to Tsemo Monastery and culminate on the 3rd day morning at Leh Gate. 

Thousands of devotees would participate in the Gochak prayers in which devotees prostrate and march for whole days on the road.

Sheynam Gochak Tsogspa consisting of about 150-160 devotees have already started their prostration (Gochak) procession in Leh from yesterday and they will join the main Gochak party at Leh gate on Wednesday. Moreover, the annual two day long Mela Mathoo Monastery is being celebrated at Mathoo (25 kms) away from Leh on 1st and 2nd of March 2018. GKNN
