Thousands attend last rites of slain Hizb militants in north Kashmir

Thousands of people on Tuesday participated in the last rites of slain Hizb ul Mujahideen militants -- Toib Majeed Mir and Ashiq Ahmed Bhat --- in north Kashmir’s Baramulla districts.

Bhat, a resident of Palhallan Pattan and Mir, a resident of Brath Kalan Sopore, were killed in a brief exchange of fire with forces in Sultanpora Zachaldara village of Handwara last evening.

An eye witness said that Toib's body was marched by thousands of mourners from his home to a local ground in Brath Kalan where his funeral prayers were held.

Funeral prayers of Bhat were held at his ancestral graveyard in Palhallan.

Thousands of people took part in the funeral prayers. They were chanting pro-freedom and pro-Islam slogans.
