The 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway continued to remain closed on second consecutive day on Saturday due to fresh snowfall and  bad weather conditions in Zojila area.

Traffic movement was temporarily suspended on the highway on Friday  due to snow acumudation and slippery conditions at Shatan nallah area of the highway.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is responsible for the maintenance of the highway up to zero point from Sonamarag side and the VIJAYAK beacon project is taking care of the highway ahead of zero point from Drass side.

Talking to Greater Kashmir, Niraj Kumar Singh, Captain BRO said that they had cleared the snow from the road up to Zero point of the Zojila area last afternoon but fresh snow has accumulated again this morning on the highway in Zojila area.

"We have started the snow clearance operation to clear the road and hopefully we will make it green soon," he said.

Liyaqat Qadri, DSP traffic Ganderbal, told Greater Kashmir that the traffic will be restored on the highway only after green signal from the BRO.

"There is no progress yet. We are waiting for green signal from BRO," he said.
