Muslim League (ML) Jammu Kashmir has condemned the slapping of 36th Public Safety Act (PSA) on its incarcerated chairman Masarat Alam Bhat and his shifting to Kot Balwal Jail, Jammu.

“Violating the High Court orders, the state government once again detained him by slapping the fresh 36th PSA on him. The court, while quashing the 35th PSA order against Masrat Aalam on 26.10.17 had directed the authorities to release him immediately. But instead of releasing, he was rearrested in connection with a frivolous FIR of 2015 lodged against him in Handwara and now has been shifted to Kotbalwal Jail, Jammu,” the ML spokesman, Sajjad Ayoubi, in a statement today, said.

“The Muslim League appeals to the United Nations Human Rights Council, Red cross, Amnesty International and other human rights bodies to come forward and take the cognizance of illegal detention of Masrat Aalam under the black law PSA which has crossed the world record,” the spokesperson said.

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani also condemned the slapping of 36th Public Safety Act (PSA) on Masarat Aalam Bhat, saying “It is the worst demonstration of political vendetta”.

Referring to prolonged and ‘unlawful’ detention of Masarat Aalam, Geelani, in a statement today, said, “Aalam is languishing in jail since long, however, it is quite disheartening that he is being subjected to vengeance by state authorities.”

Geelani also expressed his dismay over prolonged and ‘unlawful’ detention and framing “fake charges” against Shabir Ahmed Shah by the enforcement directorate (ED) and extension of judicial remand till December 15th by the National Investigation Agency (NIA)  against Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Meraj u Din Kalwal, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Shahid-ul-Islam and Nayem Ahmed Khan, saying that “Since NIA has failed to produce any substantial proof or evidences against the Hurriyat leaders, there is no moral or legal justification to detain them.”

Referring to the ‘illegal’ detention of Salah-u-Din’s son, Shahid Yousuf, Photo journalist Kamran Yousuf and Zahoor Ahmad Watali, Geelani said, “They were also indicted falsely and detained and lodged in Tihar Jail.”
