A purported picture of a 14-year-old boy of Hajin with AK-47 rifle has gone viral on social networking sites even as police claim the photo is three months’ old.

The purported picture of 9th class student, Mudasir Ahmad son of Abdul Rashid Parray, a resident of Khankha Mohalla Hajin, who went missing along with another youth in August this year is doing rounds on the social media. The picture purportedly shows the boy holding AK-47.

Police said the two youths had gone missing in Hajin around 5 months ago and they had joined militant ranks.

A senior police official of the district said that Mudasir's photo holding AK-47 had gone viral three months back when he had gone missing with another youth from Hajin.

Mudasir went missing on August 29, the same day when an encounter took place in Par Mohalla locality of Hajin. Three Pakistani militants were killed in the encounter that day.

Along with Mudasir, a class 11th student Mohammad Saqib Bilal son of Bilal Ahmad Sheikh had also gone missing and police later claimed that they have joined militant ranks.

Family members of both the missing youth in September had appealed them to return to their families.

Senior superintendent of police Bandipora, Sheikh Zulfikar Azad claimed that the picture was few months old.
