Doing away with the practice of school-level exams for class 11, the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (BOSE) will now hold the annual examination for this class, officials said on Tuesday.

“The government has already decided that there will be no school level exams for class 11th. Instead the exam will be held by us (BOSE) like that of class 10th and 12th," said joint secretary examination JKBOSE, Syed Rouf.

Greater Kashmir received several emails and calls from students seeking clarification about conduct of the exams.

“We have already informed the students of class 11th that their annual exam will be held by the BOSE only," Rouf said.

An official said BOSE has already proposed the date sheet for 10th, 11th and 12th classes.

“The exams are likely to start from third week of October,” the official said.

The students are however demanding postponement of the examinations up to second week of November citing non completion of syllabus in schools.

“We are yet to complete syllabus. How can government plan to conduct our exams in October?" asked Mehvish, a class 11th student.

Meanwhile, a top official in JKBOSE said the meeting to finalise dates for exams of all the three classes was deferred for unknown reasons.
