Nine police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers were injured in a militant attack in Tral township of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.

Reports said that the militants opened fire and lobbed a grenade at a joint party of police and the CRPF near Court road Tral, resulting into injuries to eight personnel.

A police spokesman said that the militants fired on the forces when they were handling law and order security situation on Tral road.

"Militants lobbed a grenade followed by firing on the security forces from a crowd when they were busy with law & order duties on Tral road resulting in injuries to the nine security forces personnel," he said.

The spokesman said the forces exercised maximum restraint after being attacked by the militants to prevent any civilian casualties.

The injured security force personnel were evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment.

Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit owned the attac, saying the attack was carried out on the forces “when they were on way to suppress people.”
