Police today detained the Awani Itehad Party (AIP) chairman and MLA Langate Er Rasheed while he was on his way to, Shamsipora, Homeshalibugh, in district Anantnag, to participate in a  demonstration against establishment of army camp there, according to AIP statement.

“As soon as Er Rasheed reached Galandhar, a heavy contingent of police detained him and lodged him in police station, Pantha Chowk, here,” a spokesman of the AIP, in a statement today, said.

Condemning the arrest, the spokesman said, “It is shameful on part of the government not to keep its promise it had made with the people of Shamsipora yesterday in presence of the deputy commissioner, Anantnag.”  “The government is losing its credibility for the reason that rather taking bold decisions to resolve political dispute of Jammu and Kashmir, it has preferred to exploit and cheat those who voted it to power,” it said.   “The administration stands badly exposed and it is an absolute breach of trust. Instead of fulfilling the commitment, the administration preferred to detain Er Rasheed only to fulfill its vicious designs,” the spokesman said.
