Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, today strongly condemned the killing of a pregnant lady, Firdousa, wife of Khursheed Ahmed Sheikh of Shadimarg, Pulwama, in, what it called, an exchange of firing, expressing serious anger and grief over the incident.

“The gory incident in which Firdousa, who was pregnant by six months, was killed reflects the nature of atrocities being inflicted on the people of Kashmir,” the JRL, in a statement said, praying to Almighty to grant patience to her husband and grant her highest standards in Janah.

“The brutal thrashing of people including two women at Trichal, Pulwama, at the hands of forces, who went berserk, is the worst form of oppression and the direct outcome of the unbridled powers given to the forces in Kashmir. In absence of any accountability forces are killing, maiming and thrashing the people anywhere and anytime at their wish and will,” the statement stated.

The JRL said, “Kashmir is going through the blackest chapter of the history where people are killed, youth thrashed, maimed, people of all ages subjected to torture and detention, properties vandalized and the leadership either confined to their house or lodged in various jails so that they are barred from raising voice against the oppression unleashed by the lakhs of forces across the Valley. Kashmir is witnessing the vicious cycle of killing of youth and there is hardly any day when youth are not killed on one or the other pretext and the streets of Kashmir are turned red almost every day.”

“We urge the world community to intervene at this crucial juncture and take serious note of the situation prevailing on ground in Kashmir so that people are given a sense of security. We also urge the world human rights organizations to take serious note of the unabated human rights violations and impress upon Delhi to stop its aggression on innocent Kashmiris,” the JRL said.

Expressing serious concern over the safety and security of hundreds of Kashmiri students studying outside Kashmir and unemployed Kashmiri youth looking for jobs there, the JRL urged the heads of various states to ensure safety and security of all Kashmiris and take steps to stop their harassment by various fanatic elements.
