Geelani symbol of freedom movement: Hurriyat (G) leaders

Describing Syed Ali Shah Geelani as a symbol and icon of freedom movement, the Hurriyat Conference (G) senior leaders Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Zamrooda Habib and Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar today prayed for his speedy recovery.

The leaders, in a joint statement today, hailed Geelani for his immaculate and unblemished character and generous services rendered by him for ongoing freedom movement, appealing to the people for his (Geelani’s) health.

They said, “The quarters, known for their mean and selfish politics, should know that they are puffing against the wind and stand exposed.”

“Abrogation or tinkering with the Article 35A is unacceptable for people,” the leaders said, terming the hue and cry raised by the mainstream politicians and parties over it (Article 25 A) as ‘mere drama and political gimmick’.

The trio said, “All these parties were instrumental and did a lot of injustice to these provisions while allowing amendments and abrogation during their tenure. People are quite aware that these people are raising hue and cry only to portray themselves as well-wishers of movement of saviors of nation notwithstanding the fact that they (mainstream politicians) are responsible for all political ills and mess in the state.”

“The freedom movement and Indian constitution are quite different and poles apart. People in the state have presented unparalleled sacrifices for ongoing freedom movement.”

Referring to ‘ploy and deceit’ played by Delhi, the leaders said, “they have deployed NIA sleuths to harass resistance leaders and file fictitious cases against them. It is a well thought out plan and ploy to defame movement and stop leadership from raising voice of suppressed people.”
