Drangbal in dust, locals fume

Inhabitants of Drangbal area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district today flayed PMGSY authorities for allegedly leaving midway the macadamization of eight kilometre road from Cement Bridge to Khadniar Baramulla.

According to locals, the work on the road was recently started under PMGSY. “However, after filling the potholes and constructing the protection bunds, the executing agency left the project halfway.”

The locals said they were facing inconvenience due to dust raised by the vehicles running on the dilapidated road.

“The roads in Drangbal are in extreme bad condition. They produce a lot of dust,” Ghulam Muhammad Mahir of Drangbal said.

Local residents said due to the “illegal operation of stone quarries in the area, hundreds of trucks loaded with extracted material run over the roads. These trucks raise a lot of dust and emit smoke.”

Executive engineer PMGSY Abdul Rashid Lone rejected the charges of the locals saying the work has not been left midway. “Due to the low temperature the work has been temporary halted,” Lone said.
