The Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) has asked the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) Sonamarg, which is managed by army, to demolish toilet points constructed by it on the banks of Sindh nallah.

The HAWS camp located at Nilgrath area of Sonamarg had constructed the foundations for several toilets and bathrooms on the Nallah bank along the Srinagar-Leh highway.

The SDA had objected to the constructions and informed the HAWS officials several times but in vain.

Last week, the SDA issued a notice to the officials concerned including the commanding officer (CO) of the HAWS camp, asking them to immediately demolish the constructions within a week or face legal action.

The notice issued by the Chief Executive Officer SDA reads: “The constructions are within the 50-metre distance from the banks of nallah Sindh. Whereas the CEO SDA has discussed the matter on 28/29 September, 2017, in your office at Sonamarg for early demolishing of the structures so that no person could use these toilets to avoid any chances of polluting the Sindh (sic)."

Shabir Ahmad Raina, CEO SDA, said the HAWS officials have started demolition of the structures.

He said the Sonamarg’s beauty will be preserved and no one will be allowed to carry out any illegal activity at the health resort.
