President, Doctors’ Association Kashmir (DAK) Dr Suhail Naik on Wednesday said availing of the gazetted holidays was the right of every employee including the doctors.

“If the government wants the doctors to perform extra duties, they need to be compensated like other essential service employees are paid,” a DAK handout said.

The doctors were also governed by same civil rules and “do have the same human rights as other employees have.”

The association said it had been peacefully appealing to the authorities since years to resolve the genuine demands of the doctors “but our pleas have fallen on deaf ears.”

Meanwhile, the statement said, the DAK has decided that all doctors barring “emergencies and casualty sections” across the Valley shall avail gazetted holidays from 30 April 2018.

The association has asked all the doctors to assemble at directorate office at 1 pm on 30 April to lodge a strong protest.
