Government forces cordoned off Laam forests in Tral area of Pulwama district on Monday evening and conducted a cordon-and-search operation for about 20 hours, an official said on Tuesday.

“Contingents of J&K police, Army’s 42 Rashtriya Rifles and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force carried out searches to trace the militants,” he said.

“During the searches, no contact was established with the militants despite heavy firing from the forces,” a source said, adding that the militants “managed to escape from the area and operation ended without any casualty.”

After starting the operation, authorities snapped internet service across Pulwama district. The operation was lifted by evening although internet service remained blocked.

Kashmir range inspector general of police Munir Ahmed Khan told Greater Kashmir that during the operation, a militant hideout was busted.
