According to sources over 409 cases of subletting are pending before the Wakf board.

The Wakf Board has failed to stop the practice of subletting of its properties, sources said. 

According to sources over 409 cases of subletting are pending before the Wakf board.

At Assari-e-Sharief Hazratbal, 78 shops have been allegedly subleased by the tenants without informing the Wakf Board, sources said. “Similarly at Maisuma complex, 56 shops have been sublet.”

At Peerwari complex, the case pertaining to subletting of 52 shops are pending before the Wakf board. At K K Moulla, 27 shops belonging to Wakf Board have been sublet and at Nalabandpora 19 shops of the board are in illegal possession of subtenants, sources said.

At Boulevard 18 shops have been sublet, Drogjan 13, Babademab Khanyar 11, Kalashpora 11, Rustumgari Complex 10, S.N Qadri 10, Syed Hassari Nowhatta, 10 and Qutub din pora Nowhatta 10.

The other cases of subletting of Wakf property are at Naqashband Sahib where nine shops have been “illegally” sublet, and at New Complex Soura where eight shops have been sublet.

At Ropareshi HabbaKadal, seven shops have illegally leased to the subtenants, seven shops at Malik Sahab Souvra, seven at Makhdoom Sahib Hawal, and seven at Gojwara.

Similarly, at Malik Angan Fateh Kadal six shops have been sublet, five shops at Syed Ali Akbar, five shops at Zaindar Sahi, four shops at Mujahid Manzil, and four at Shahi Masjid.

At Batwara, three shops have been sublet, two at Dalgate, two at Suleiman complex and one at Qilla Masjid.

“Wakf board has not been able to protect its property. The tenants have leased out the property to subtenants and Wakf board has not been able to do anything to protect its property. The board is aware of these cases of subletting, but has failed to take any timely action, resulting illegally occupation of subtleties,” said an employee at Wakf Board.

He said, “These illegal occupants are not ready to leave the shops as they have been occupying it since ages and if you try to remove them, they go to the court and get a stay on the order. And this is how Wakf board takes care of its properties.”

The Wakf board has 1628 shops, 1381 rooms, 86 sets, 17 Go-downs, 31 showrooms, 47 halls, 05 houses, 22 sheds, 26 other buildings (non commercial, including school building) and 76 open spaces/Tahi Zameeni.

In district Srinagar the board has 2189 shops, 241 in Anantnag, 137 in Pulwama, 174 Budgam, 619 in Baramulla. In Bandipora the Wakf has 08 shops, Ganderbal 13 and Kupwara two.
