The administration on Wednesday carried out surprise inspection of food outlets for Amarnath yatris at Baltal base camp here.  

An official from the district said on the directions of Commissioner of Department of Food Safety Jammu and Kashmir Dr Kabir Dar, a team was deputed to conduct inspection of langars (community kitchens) and food stalls at Baltal. 

"On daily basis we conduct inspection of langars and also monitor hygiene, sanitation and other requirements needed under the provisions of Food Safety and Standards Act(FSSA)-2006," said Fayaz Ahmed Food Safety Officer Kangan, who led the inspection team at Baltal. 

He said samples are taken from food stalls on routine basis to ascertain the quality of food under FSSA. 

He added awareness programmes are also conducted for langarwalas to ensure quality food for the yatris. 

While speaking to Greater Kashmir Dr Kabir said two teams have been deployed at both the base camps-Baltal and Pahalgam to conduct regular inspection of food outlets son that quality food in ensured for yatris.
