Woman dies, 3 others hospitalized due to suspected poisoning

They said that Naseem Akhter (22) wife of Muhammad Riaz of Mara Surankote was rushed to GMC&H on June 20 after she allegedly consumed some poisonous material at her residence.

A woman who allegedly consumed some poisonous substance at her residence at Mara, Surankote on June 20 died, while three other people were taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) on Thursday after they consumed some poisonous materials at their residences, said police.

They said that Naseem Akhter (22) wife of Muhammad Riaz of Mara Surankote was rushed to GMC&H on June 20 after she allegedly consumed some poisonous material at her residence. 

“On Wednesday night, at around 11:30 pm, the woman didn’t respond to the treatment,” police said.

The body of the deceased woman was shifted to the mortuary of the hospital for conducting the autopsy, while a case under relevant sections of the law has been registered at police station Surankote.

Meanwhile, at least three people were admitted to the hospital after they allegedly consumed some poisonous material at their residences.

Police said that Kiran Devi (29) wife of Prithvi of Akhnoor consumed some poisonous substance at her home. She was rushed to Choudhary Hospital in Akhnoor from where the doctors referred her to GMC&H Jammu for advanced treatment.

At Sangoor, Udhampur, they said that one Sanjay Kumar (29) son of Mulkh Raj of Sangoor consumed some poisonous material at his residence. He was taken to District Hospital, Udhampur, where the dcotros referred him to GMC&H.   

“One Ravi Kumar (21) son of Raj Kumar of Arnia also consumed some poisonous material at his residence. He was rushed to GMC&H by his wife,” police said.

When this report was last filed, all the patients were responding to the treatment.

Police have registered cases under relevant sections of the law and started investigations in all the cases.
