National Conference (NC) Provincial President and MLA, Devender Singh Rana on Wednesday visited the proposed site for the strategically important 250 meter span Chilla Bridge, being constructed at a cost of Rs 25 crore in Nagrota Assembly Constituency.

Rana got the bridge approved after vociferously taking it up during the fifth meeting of the Surinsar-Mansar Development Authority on 8th July 2017. He had also sought appropriate and urgent funding for the project under Central Road Fund   (CRF).

The bridge assumes significance for reviving pilgrim tourism in the area and will be first phase of the mega New Pilgrim Tourist Circuit from Utterbeni-Purmandal-Surinsar-Deon-Tada-Dansal-Domel to the footfall of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra.

Describing the New Pilgrim Tourist Circuit crucial for bringing Nagrota Constituency at the centre-stage of activity, he said the bridge will go a long way in streamlining mobility in the area and enabling connectivity between various destinations on route to Katra.

“Apart from giving fillip to pilgrim tourism, the link will enhance the economic activity, especially transportation of farm produce between various villages,” he said and hoped that the first phase of the project will be completed in a time bound manner.

“This cannot be achieved without continued pro-active support of the people, whose feedback has been hugely beneficial in taking up various issues with the concerned agencies,” he added.

Meanwhile, the MLA also started blacktopping of Chilla Road and second phase of Malhori-Kupad road in Bajalta.

He said that smooth road connectivity is imperative for mobility. He said that the upgradation and improvement of roads has become imperative in the wake of damages caused due to incessant monsoon rains.
