Despite repeated requisitions for the past two years, the government has failed to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) for setting oxygen concentration plants at the Government Medical College (GMC) and SMGS Hospital in Jammu.

Currently, the capacity of oxygen plant at GMC is of 1200 litres per minute(LPM) against the requirement of around 2000 LPM. Similarly, capacity of oxygen plant at the SMGS hospital is 500 LPM against the required capacity of 2000 LPM.

Sources said “poor capacity” of oxygen plants at the two hospitals is putting lives of patients at risk. Executive engineer of mechanical division Manesh Singh Khurana said they are sorting out the issue.

“There were some objections, which we are sorting out. Soon DPR for oxygen plant at SMGS hospital will be prepared, while separate oxygen plant will be also set up in GMC hospital for Chopra Nursing Home and Medicine and some other wards.”
