Senior National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Khanyar on Monday said the party played its “democratic role” inside the House to help the state government in coming out of crises.

Sagar was speaking during the last day of the proceedings of Budget session 2018-19 in the Legislative Assembly.

“We staged protests and at times walked out from House on various issues. But it is the role of opposition to make government accountable. It is beauty of democracy,” he said, adding that leader of opposition Omar Abdullah also showed his concern in the House and participated in every debate.

“The intention was to take the state out from the prevailing uncertainty as the answers from government regarding security related issues were disturbing,” he said.

He said: “The Fidayeen attack in Jammu and encounter in Karan Nagar Srinagar proved that situation was not normal in the state.”

“CM should realize and take suggestion from opposition as it can help her to bring betterment in the situation,” he said.

Commenting on BJP’s demand to take against NC leader Muhammad Akbar Lone for raising pro-Pakistan slogans, he said, “You were hurt with one slogan and what about the Muslims of India whom your leaders (RSS and BJP) term Pakistani for being Muslims.”

Another NC leader and deputy speaker of Legislative Assembly Nazir Ahmad Gurezi while speaking in the House asked the government not to repeat the mistakes it committed during the present Budget session.

“Wrong or flawed replies should not be presented before the House from next session,” he said.

Congress leader, Nawanag Rigzin Jora in his speech said: “Opposition has a mandate to stage protest of walk out from the House but it should not be taken to heart,” he said.

CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami said all the leaders irrespective of their political affiliation share a common mandate of serving people of the state.
