The Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Thursday strongly denounced the US move to declare Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

In a statement, he said that despite its tall claims of being a democracy, the US is “following a biased and a prejudicial policy against the Muslim countries.”

The Muslim world, he said, must forge unity and take practical steps against the “sinister designs and conspiracies hatched by the US.”

He called for a Kashmir-wide protest on 8th December (Friday) against the Trump administration’s controversial move.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of the Hurriyat said that an extraordinary meeting of its executive council was held under the chairmanship of Geelani.

All the constituent leaders participated in the meeting and thoroughly deliberated upon prevailing situations, geopolitical changes, conspiracies hatched against the Muslim Ummah and recent developments related to the ongoing movement in Kashmir and the future strategy, the spokesman said.

“After deliberations, it was declared that while pursuing the freedom movement, we won’t succumb to any pressure. While extending full support to Syed Ali Geelani, the Council hailed the stand and stance adopted by the Hurriyat chairman,” the spokesman said.

“It was resolved in the meeting that Hurriyat Conference believes in peaceful resolution of all issues through meaningful dialogue, however it is the arrogance of the Indian administration that has turned the whole state into a graveyard and while strangulating genuine voices, the authorities are caging innocents including students, youth and elderly,” the spokesman said. “A martial law-like situation has been created in the state.”

“The members reviewed the future strategy, work plans and reinforcement into the amalgam, and declared that they are obliged to follow the mission of martyrs and will take the movement to its logical end. Negotiations under the shadow of gun are unacceptable and against the spirits of democratic norms,” the spokesman said.

The meeting condemned harassment of its constituent member Davinder Singh and his family by Bajrang Dal and VHP activists, the spokesman aid.
