A five-kilogram Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered and diffused in Shalteng area here on Srinagar-Baramulla highway on Saturday, officials said.

CRPF spokesman Rajesh Yadav said that a patrolling party of 44 battalion CRPF and 2 RR of army found a suspicious object near Noora Hospital on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway. “On Friday evening, an input was received that an IED was being placed somewhere on the stretch after which patrolling was intensified,” he said.

Yadav said that once the suspicious objected was found, a bomb disposal squad from Pattan reached the spot and found that it was a 5-kg powerful IED. “The BDS later diffused the IED,” he said. He said that during the course of action, traffic on the highway was suspended for some time.
