How many deadlines make a deadline in Kashmir. Well, keep counting. The pace of development in Kashmir has its own peculiarities. As death, our deadlines follow no calendar. It can be this year, may be the next, or even next to next. Don't be surprised if it moves into another decade. Hold on, in certain cases it might live for ever, without meeting a deadline. A project that runs into eternity. This thought struck once again as the eye fell on the news about a flyover named Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh-Flyover. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has directed officers of ERA to complete the construction works of Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh (JCR) flyover and TRC Grade Separator (mini flyover) in a time-bound manner, while reviewing the progress of construction works of the two prestigious projects underway in the capital city. Apparently it is a routine direction and one does appreciate the administration for being particular about completing this project. Now it has been, one doesn't know how many years, that the two prestigious projects are underway. Of course we don't forget that two years of peak work were lost almost back to back. First, when the floods hit the valley and every thing was under water. September 2014 onwards the work stopped on the projects, and even the machinery got damaged. It took many months to get the things back on track. Finally when the work was in full swing, Kashmir valley witnessed a turbulence that threw life completely out of gear in 2016. The work was again stopped, and after one full season of work things could be put back in place. These disruptions is a valid reason for delay, but one might question about the length of delay. After all such projects are completed in a matter of a year or two, if not in some months elsewhere. Why the pace of our projects is so slow. And remember these projects have caused lot of unease to the city life. That should have been reason enough to complete it in as less a time as possible. Anyways we hope that finally all these deadlines some day combine to make a real dead line.
