The Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three men and rescued 35 bovine animals from their possession in Ramban.

A police officer said, “On the directions of senior superintendent of police, Anita Sharma, teams, led by station house officer Ramban, Vijay Kotwal, and station house officer Chanderkote, Abid Bukhari, laid separate checkpoints near Shan Palace and Chanderkote on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.”

During checking, a truck, JK02AQ 3147, and a Tata mobile, JK19 6601, were intercepted near Shan Palace and a total of 29 bovine animals (20 from the truck and 9 from the Tata mobile) were rescued, the officer said, adding that both the vehicles were seized and their drivers were arrested.

Meanwhile, near Chanderkote on the highway, the police team intercepted a Tata mobile, JK02BU 6102. “On checking, 6 bovine animals, which were found loaded in the vehicle, were rescued. The driver was arrested and the vehicle was seized as well,” the officer said.

Police identified the arrested men as Anwar Hussain, Mohammad Yousuf and Mohammad Irfan. “On being questioned, the men revealed that they were trying to smuggle the bovine animals towards Kashmir without seeking permission from the concerned authorities,” the police officer said.
