‘Shun negative publicity, help promoting Kashmir’

Saying that the people associated with the tourism industry, particularly the hoteliers and house boat owners, are facing tough times due to decline of visitors to the Valley, Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (KHARA) today appealed the media fraternity for ‘restraining from negative publicity of Kashmir, while discharging the professional duties.  

“… we appeal entire media to help us and to save us from the negative publicity while performing noble professional responsibilities so as to enable us to survive with honour and dignity and let us work together to provide our hospitable services to Kashmir lover tourists for all times to come,” KHARA president Abdul Majid said in a written statement. 

“Despite of hard efforts put together throughout the winter of 2016-17 by the Department of Tourism along with the tourism trade fraternity of Kashmir for marketing and promoting Kashmir in both domestic and international potential markets but unfortunately no fruitful result could be achieved because of the known reason of negative approach of the media both electronic and print.”

Repeated decline in tourism continuously from 2008, 2010, 2014, 2016-2017 have resulted employment generating hotel industry of Kashmir a tremendous adverse setback, he said, adding, that hotel industry of Kashmir as of now is surviving with extreme hard times with day to day operational costs like “multiple liability of loans/huge sum of other expenditure like electricity fee and other government taxes”.
