J&K finance department on Thursday ordered that e-commerce operators to collect an amount at the rate of half percent of the net value of intra-state taxable supplies as tax collected at sources (TCS).

As per an order issued from the office of principal secretary the finance department Navin K Choudhary, “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 52 of the Jammu and Kashmir Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, the government, on the recommendations of the (GST) Council, hereby notifies that every electronic commerce operator, not being an agent, shall collect an amount calculated at a rate of half percent of the net value of intra-state taxable supplies made through it by other suppliers, where the consideration with respect to such supplies is to be collected by the said operator.”

The notification shall come into force from September 20, the order further read.

The J&K government order is in consideration with Union finance ministry notification for TCS of 1 percent by the supplies made by e-commerce operators. While the half percent will go to the centre, the other half is for the state.
