LMD Jammu penalizes retail outlet

Under the supervision of Controller Legal Metrology R K Katoch, a team of Officers of Enforcement wing of Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement Jammu, led by Ajay Verma conducted checking at retail outlet here at Hari Market Jammu on Monday.

More than 10 products, including milk serving mug, glassware, drinking water bottles for school children and shoes, were inspected for their compliance with regards to various provisions of Legal Metrology Package commodities Rules 2011. Some of the products were found to be not adhering to the provisions. 

Accordingly, the Department seized the said products and the management of  the outlet was booked for sale of products without mentioning all the mandatory declarations on them by the manufacturers of the products. After assurance of the company to not repeat the same fault in future, the booked challan was compounded and a penalty of Rs 1lakh was imposed on the trader.

The Department also inspected the various stationary shops at Janipur and adjoining areas and booked a stationary shop for not declaring mandatory declaration on the package and a notice was issued for attending the office of the Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement Jammu for further legal proceedings.

The Department also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade and anti-consumers practices and appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing commodities.
