BJP leader and former minister Choudhary Lal Singh’s statement warning journalists from Kashmir to “draw a line of journalism and think about how to live”  has evoked sharp reactions on the social and the traditional news media.

The social media users lashed at the BJP leader for using derogatory language against the journalists from Kashmir and “even raising suspicious of planning murder of Rising Kashmir chief editor Shujaat Bukhari, who was killed on June 14 by unknown gunmen.”

“BJP leader Lal Singh warns Kashmiri journalists to be careful, lest they should end up like Basharat (Shujaat Bukhari)!! At the press conference, Lal Singh said that Rising Kashmir had created a "different atmosphere" on Kathua gang rape and murder case, so they paid the price!!,” wrote social activist Shehla Rashid on her twitter profile.

“Thank you Choudhary Lal Singh for opening eyes of minuscule groups of India boot licking Kashmiri’s who raised their fingers towards mujahideen for Shujaat’s assassination (sic),” wrote Muzafer Wani on Facebook.

Noted journalist Pallavi Ghosh also condemned attack on Valley based journalists. “Lal Singh’s threat to Kashmiri journos ! Absolutely condemnable,” she wrote.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala termed Lal Singh’s statements as shocking and reprehensible.

Writing on twitter, he said, “BJP J&K MLA, Lal Singh openly threatens journalists to ‘fall in line & draw a line’. He horrifically says that otherwise they will meet the fate of Shujat Bukhari by naming his brother. Does BJP leaders have some special knowledge of the assassination?”

Television journalist Aditya Raj Kaul said, “BJP’s Lal Singh is such an embarrassment. One can’t point out which of his all statements are more juvenile, immature and outrageous. He was a liability for Congress, and now is for BJP.”

“Does this man deserve to be in public life? Should he not be sacked by the BJP right away?” said journalist Rajdeep Sardesai.

“Why this BJP goon Lal Singh is roaming free when he has openly threatened Kashmiri journalists?  His remarks have raised some serious questions. He has exposed himself and infact his whole criminal brigade. Why should we remain tightlipped over this criminal barking. Let us speak and speak with courage (sic),” said Peerzada Aarif using facebook.
